Happy America Day

hello everyone.

happy america day americans. it’s hot as hell here in LA. i’m not getting much of it though. i’ve been working on some new ideas. and for the past few days have been playing around and recording some drum tracks. i’m still trying figure out what room sounds best for recording drums in my house. so far so good. it’s tough to decide. can’t wait to get started for real. even though that’s still a ways away. well, i’ve got to get back in the studio. i just took a little break to say hello.

So I watched some interview with you yesterday and you mentioned something about your feelings about school and how you knew that you wouldn’t ever need most of the shit they were trying to teach you. You also mentioned that for your career class you went to a small recording studio. It is so funny because I remember uttering those same words about knowing I was never going to need most of the stuff they were teaching to my mom and the vice principal of my school when I said I wanted to drop out. The vice principal told me that with my attitude I might as well drop out. That was the last day I spent in high school. I was 16. I also chose music as being my thing for “career day” and I ended up spending the day at a radio station. Not even close to what I imagined in my head of where I wanted to spend my time…but it got me out of class and I was cool with that. I also found a tiny recording studio and chose someone who worked there to interview. It sounds like your school had you spending a lot more time out in the field. lol

My daughter just turned 6 and I am unschooling her. Basically she is allowed to learn about what ever interests her in any given moment. She learns her math and reading through everyday living. There is SO much we learn just by doing and living and people are inclined to LOVE learning when it is something they care about. They will research a topic tirelessly when it is something that interests them. Thankfully I live in a city where there are lots of other unschoolers and resources for those of us who choose this form of education for our children. And for those reading this and wondering about the likely future of a grown unschooler…go do a search on youtube of “Astra Taylor”. She grew up in the unschooling life and she has a thing or two to same about it.

I hope you find the right room for the drums. I would guess one without windows might be preferable….but that is a guess. I am just imagining the rattling sound from the windows coming into play. I am a writer, so obviously know nothing about recording. lol

    • where is the damned edit button! Argh!
a thing or two to say* about it.

    Well Hello!!

Hope you at least got to enjoy some fireworks!! I’m glad you took the time to hi. Have a great week Deryck!

  6. Speaking to Kerrang!, Whibley says: “Now I’m sober, I don’t get calls from certain people that I used to… the drinking friends. Now I’m the bum-out to them. Who wants to invite the sober guy to the party? Y’know who has been incredibly supportive? Iggy Pop. He had a lot of great advice; he’s been through it all. We’ve been friends for years.”

“Same for Tommy Lee from Mötley Crüe. He told me what to expect from people, that not everyone will understand. Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum from Guns N’ Roses have been great too. We go out for coffee and talk about shit.”

Oh man! I just gave up my 30 year coffee addiction. I guess we won’t be hanging out after all when you come to Portland, OR on your tour. Maybe we can meet in the middle and go someplace for a wheatgrass smoothie. Lmao 😉 We can talk about shit over smoothies too. Lol
